DOJ: MS-13 Gang Has Killed More Than 65 Long Island, NY Residents Since 2009

The violent MS-13 gang, based in El Salvador, has killed more than 65 residents of Long Island, New York, since 2009, according to figures released by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Last week, federal prosecutors announced that three high-ranking members of the MS-13 gang — Vladimir Antonio Arevalo-Chavez, Walter Yovani Hernandez-Rivera, and Marlon Antonio Menjivar-Portillo — were arrested in Mexico and subsequently sent to the United States to face charges. .

A total of 13 members of the MS-13 gang are charged in the case, including six who are believed to be in police custody in El Salvador and another four who remain at large in Mexico.

As part of the disclosed four-count indictment, federal prosecutors revealed that members of the MS-13 gang were responsible for more than 65 murders on Long Island since 2009. The number indicates that the gang commits five murders a year in Long Island communities. one.

According to federal prosecutors, the 13 members of the MS-13 gang constitute the “command and control structure” of the organization, which includes organizing “violent terrorist activities” in El Salvador to influence the government, intimidate civilians and manipulate elections in the country.

Most importantly, the members are accused of authorizing and directing violence in the US, as well as in Mexico and elsewhere, including countless murders.

“The tireless and heroic efforts of law enforcement here and in Central America are leading to the systematic dismantling of MS-13. [from] from top to bottom,” said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace for the Eastern District of New York. “We will not stop until this transnational gang and its leaders are held accountable for the extreme violence they have inflicted on our county, the United States and the countries where this scourge is based.”
