Democratic Senator Fetterman’s office releases update after he was hospitalized for clinical depression

Senator John Fetterman, PA, released a health update on Monday after the Democratic senator was treated in hospital for clinical depression earlier this month.

Fetterman’s communications director Joe Calvello said the Democratic senator is “feeling good” and working with doctors as he “stays on the road to recovery.”

“He visits staff and family daily, and his staff keeps him updated on Senate affairs and news,” Calvello said in a statement. “Our team is moving forward at full speed and working tirelessly for the benefit of the people of Pennsylvania. Just last week, we opened a new office in Erie and will open more offices in the coming weeks.”

He added: “We understand the great interest in John’s status and especially appreciate the flood of good wishes. However, as we’ve said, this will be a process that will take several weeks, and while we’ll be sure to keep people updated as it progresses, that’s about all we can say as an update.”

On February 16, Fetterman checked into a Washington, D.C. hospital for treatment for clinical depression.

His hospitalization comes after a rough year in which the 53-year-old suffered a stroke shortly before the May primary and spent most of the summer away from the campaign trail, recuperating. He said the stroke nearly killed him. He also underwent surgery to implant a pacemaker with a defibrillator to treat two heart conditions, atrial fibrillation and cardiomyopathy. After winning in November, he went to the Senate in January, where he had to adjust to life in Washington and the daily routine of a federal deputy.
