Delivery driver accused of stealing customer’s kitten during Grubhub order

Northwest San Antonio is left in shock after a Grubhub delivery driver was caught on camera stealing a white kitten from a front porch. The cat, named Smudge, was part of a litter of three kittens that were taken care of by a feral mother. Amanda Scoggins, owner of Smudge, received a notification from her neighbor that the driver had taken her pet after collecting a more than 20% tip.

Scoggins, who is devastated by the loss, said she frequently receives deliveries with no issues. It was shocking to her when she heard the news. “I looked over at [the cats outside] and sure enough there was one, two and no three,” she recalled. The theft was then confirmed through her neighbor’s security camera footage.

The mother cat is feral, so it is not possible to bring them inside the house. They are usually out in the porch, and whenever they needed to nurse, they were with their mother. The white kitten that was stolen was hers and was named Smudge. The other two kittens have owners lined up.

Scoggins has been spending hundreds of dollars on supplies, getting ready for Smudge’s separation. They have been doing the best they could by them, checking on them constantly, and placing food bowls and blankets by the front door. It did not occur to Scoggins that the Grubhub driver would take her kitten, thinking that it was a stray. Nonetheless, the footage was given to Grubhub and the San Antonio Police, who both confirmed they were investigating the incident.

A spokesperson from Grubhub told KENS 5 that they had suspended the driver while they investigated the incident. Needless to say, Scoggins gave the driver a one-star review for stealing her cat. “It was one star and, ‘the driver stole my cat’ was the comment,” she said.

In conclusion, this incident serves as a stark reminder that caution needs to be exercised when pets are left outside. Unfortunately, incidents like these are a stain on the reputation of delivery service drivers, and it is hoped that such issues will not happen again. Meanwhile, Scoggins and her neighbor are waiting for Smudge’s safe return.
