Dangerous mountain lion that attacked a 5-year-old child in California will not be taken from the wild

A mountain lion that attacked a 5-year-old while traveling with his family in California will not be moved from his natural habitat, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation.

After a horrific incident on Tuesday evening, a small child, identified only by the name Jack, was taken to safety by her mother. If his mother had not done so, the boy’s injuries could have been fatal.
The agency said he has been consistently denied access to private areas where the animal is believed to be, leading it to conclude that their investigation into the unfortunate incident is complete.

“Since the day of the attack, employees of the CDFW and related agencies have been denied access to major private property and adjacent private properties,” the agency said. This was done to prevent further attempts to capture the mountain lion responsible for the attack.

“The inability to access the area, as well as deteriorating weather conditions and the nomadic nature of the mountain lions, reduced the chances of successfully capturing the mountain lion that caused the damage.”

On the day of the attack, Jack, his mother and grandfather were walking together near their family farm when it happened. According to authorities, the young man was running ahead when a mountain lion pounced on him and pinned him to the ground.

It was believed that Jack’s mother scared off the animal, which turned out to be a young cub, by lunging at him.

The young boy was treated for stab wounds and other injuries at the emergency room after he was taken there.
