Damar Hamlin appeared on the field of the Super Bowl

Damar Hamlin made it to the Super Bowl.

The Buffalo Bills safetys made their third appearance in Phoenix during Super Bowl week, this time at State Farm Stadium ahead of Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

It’s been a little over a month since Hamlin went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated on a field in Cincinnati. Sunday’s appearance marked another milestone in his remarkable recovery.

“I let it be in God’s hands,” Hamlin said in an interview with Fox’s Michael Strahan. “I’m just grateful that he gave me a second chance.”

During the pre-game spectacle, the NFL honored the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals training and medical staff, as well as the staff at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Hamlin joined them a minute later, putting his hands together to form a heart. He also received hugs from several of the first responders.

He also appeared on the NFL Honors stage on Thursday night.

“All my life I have felt that God has used me to give others hope, and now, with a new set of circumstances, I can say that he is doing what he has always done,” Hamlin said on Thursday. “I have a long road ahead of me, a road full of unknowns and a road full of milestones, but it’s much easier to face your fears when you know your goal.”

Super Bowl LVII before the game

Hamlin collapsed on the field after colliding with Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins on January 2. The sight of an elite-level athlete nearly dying on the field shocked the entire NFL and the world.
