Cowboy Fan of the Year, James Wright, aka “The Man in the Suit”, loves life despite losses

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – James Wright’s love for the Dallas Cowboys dates back to when he was a young child. Love, according to his mother, made him cry whenever the Cowboys lost a game.

Fast forward to today, Wright still wears his emotions on his sleeve. His closet is filled with Cowboys clothing that looks like a team store.

He says he wears at least one piece of team clothing every day. This includes nine custom-made Cowboys suits that earned him the title of “Man in Suits”.

When not rooting for the Cowboys, James serves as a first sergeant in the Junior ROTC program at Spruce High School in ISD Dallas.

Wright says he loves the idea of helping students prepare for success.

It was these students who helped James recover from the devastating loss of his wife Rose to COVID in late 2021.

James says that his time alone allowed him to get what his wife wanted from him. She would like him to continue his passion for the Cowboys.

This season, that passion was rewarded when Cowboys legend Darren Woodson, Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, and mascot Rhodey showed up at Wright’s house to tell him that he had been chosen as the official Cowboys fan of the year.

In addition to the 11 1/2-foot statue (in his likeness) in his front yard in DeSoto, James will have the opportunity to attend the NFL Honors Award show the night before the Super Bowl in Arizona.

There, he finds out if he is Captain Morgan’s Fan of the Year NFL.

Wouldn’t it be something if he won the award and the Cowboys fought for the title the following night. Asked what advice he can give to those who have great passion in life, James replies: “Don’t be ashamed. If you are passionate about something and love it…then, love It!
