Dallas Park renamed for late community leader Irene Trigg-Myers.

The city of Dallas rededicated the park in honor of the late community leader Irene Trigg-Myers on Wednesday.

The city has decided to change the name of Kimble Park on Warren Avenue in South Dallas to Irene Trigg-Myers Prosperity Park.

Trigg-Myers helped found Abounding Prosperity, a nonprofit organization focused on the social and economic inequalities faced by black families in Dallas County.

“My mother was a strong supporter of fair housing and good clean spaces for families, so this park was the perfect opportunity for us to memorialize her,” said Kirk Myers Hill, son of Trigg and CEO of Abounding Prosperity.

Grammy-winning gospel artist Tremaine Hawkins performed in the park as part of the ceremony. The leaders also held ribbon cutting and tree planting.

The ceremony took place on the day Ms Trigg would have turned 80.

The organizers have said that March is Women’s History Month and they think it’s the perfect time to celebrate her contributions.
