Sheriff said County Deputy Travis was pinned down with the tire of an 18-wheeler while helping another driver.

County Deputy Travis is recovering after being pinched under the tire of an 18-wheeler that slid off on an icy road, the sheriff’s office said. The MP is expected to survive.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office said that around 8:46 a.m., a police officer stopped and got out of his vehicle to help the driver of an 18-wheeler who had left the road at the 3900 block of SH 130 northbound.

While assisting the driver, another 18-wheeled vehicle slid down the icy road and hit the deputy. The TCSO said the deputy was pinched by one of the tractor’s tires.

TCSO, DPS, AFD and ATCEMS helped free the deputy and he was taken to the hospital with injuries. The MP is in surgery and is expected to survive.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who responded and helped this deputy in difficult times. His biological family and the TCSO family are relieved and grateful that he is alive. Please do not drive on these icy roads. is not worth your life or the lives of rescuers who literally risk their personal safety,” said Sheriff Sally Hernandez.
