Dallas neighborhood demanding city officials stop speeding cars that have led to crashes, death

DALLAS — Residents of one North Texas neighborhood said they’ve been dealing with street racing and cars constantly speeding down the road all hours of the day.

After one man died as a result of racing, the residents are demanding that city leaders do more to stop this.

For neighbors living off of Forest Lane and Woodbridge Drive in Northeast Dallas, every day they feel like they’re living on a race track.

“It’s a known raceway,” said Lynne Rains, who has been living in the neighborhood for over 10 years.

Rains said that in three months alone, there were at least four major crashes and that one man died.

Ring surveillance video showed when a speeding car crashed into a wall.

Neighbors described another crash.

“This happened in September, this was the 3 a.m., the lady driving down the wrong way,” one person said.

Neighbors also said a man was speeding down a nearby road in mid-October, crashed into this wall, and was thrown from the car. Then about a week and a half later, just down the block, a man was walking and talking on the phone with his mom when a speeding driver hit and killed him. 

No arrests have been made.

“His car had broken down. He was walking to an Uber, and he may have stepped off the curb, and a car hit him. The car was going an excessive 90 mph,” Rains said.

While city officials put up a flashing sign saying slow down, neighbors are demanding city leaders do more to stop speeding drivers.

“We need help. Safety is first with all the bus stops and the speeding cars. It’s terrifying to think of what can happened,” said Rains.

Neighbors added they’ve also been forced to fix the brick walls that have been damaged from their own pocket.
