Dallas Mavericks DJ plays big role at NBA All-Star Game

It is uncompromisingly authentic. A social media influencer and one of the hottest DJs in North Texas. Ivy Avino, aka DJ Poizon Ivy, is best known as the in-game DJ for the Dallas Mavericks.

For the fifth year now, she can add to her list of DJ All-Star Weekend NBA awards.

“The NBA Production and Entertainment division selects talent from across the league every year to participate in the NBA All-Star Celebration,” Avino said. “In my seven years in the league, I have been lucky enough to be selected five times. I was the DJ or host of every weekend event.

For Avino, it’s more than just being a DJ, it’s an art form when it comes to choosing the music she’ll play in games.

“Research, also known as Tik Tok,” she joked. “Seriously, some songs are made for certain moments. I premiered the song “Rich the kid ft. Lil Tjay. I deliberately played the new don AFROBEATS for Ira Starr’s global “stability” fancam. I just always want to represent as many people as possible.”

Her history with the Mavericks spans over ten years. Last seven years as an MC/DJ and seven years as a Bolkid. Born and raised in Dallas, she had no other choice.

Born Ivy Avino in Nairobi, Kenya and raised in Dallas, Texas, Ivy mastered the piano and cello before discovering her love for yet another instrument; turntables. In 2010, Ivy had her first breakthrough hosting her eponymous weekly online radio show Poison Ivy After Dark on WMUR, a radio station run by Marquette University student. In a few short years, Ivey has risen in the ranks by opening the city’s biggest venues at Milwaukee’s Marcus Amphitheater and being hailed as the “World’s Biggest Music Festival” Summerfest, opening for some of the biggest names in music: Nas, Wiz Khalifa, Lupe Fiasco, BoB, J .Cole and Juicy J are just a few. She is now one of the most in-demand DJs in the Midwest, performing and performing throughout the Midwest.
