Dallas Mavericks 42nd Annual St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival Final Preparations Underway

About a week before St. Patrick’s Day, the city of Dallas kicks off the party early Saturday morning and expects the annual event to be bigger and better than ever.

Proceeds from the parade will go to the Dallas ISD High School Scholarship Fund, established by the Greenville Avenue Business Association. In previous years, he gave over $150,000 to high school students.

Mayor of Dallas Eric Johnsonwho was named Grand Marshal of this year’s parade, said he was confident it would be a safe and fun event.

“I’m a big believer in just coming in and having fun. I want everyone to come and have fun. But we’re going to do it safely. I want to make sure everyone gets home safely,” he said.

There will be a huge police presence, about 200 officers scattered throughout the area. Greenville Avenue parade route and a platform for celebrations.

“I personally adjusted the weather and it should be great. But don’t go out and fool around now,” Mayor Johnson warned. “Be prepared to obey all laws. I want everyone to have fun responsibly. We will have fun, but we will not tolerate stupid things.

The parade will feature over 90 floats, as well as live music, food trucks, private seating areas, a family area for kids and a celebration of the Irish spirit.

The festival runs from 9:00 to 15:00 on Saturdays. The parade itself begins at 11 a.m. and will begin on Greenville Avenue north of Beltway 12 and continue all the way to SMU Boulevard.

Streets must begin closing at 10:00 am The parade must continue until 2:00 pm.

People are advised to park before 9am, but some attendees park earlier than the night before, so be prepared for a tricky parking situation. Travel can also be difficult, but organizers encourage people to park or drop off in an area further away from Greenville and walk to the venue.

The city also encourages people to combine cars or use the DART bus and rail system. Recommended DART Rail stations to arrive at are Mockingbird Station, Lovers Lane Station, and Park Lane Station.
