Dallas cop fired, another suspended for 20 days, department says

Officer Barron Cooper has been fired and Officer Aaron Cagle has been fired, police officials said.

DALLAS. One Dallas police officer was fired and another was suspended for 20 days due to separate incidents, the department said this week.

Officer Barron Cooper was fired for violating several departmental policies, including: emergency operations policy, use of unnecessary and/or inappropriate force against a citizen, use of profanity when communicating with a prisoner, failure to provide required reports, and engaging in criminal activities. an accident in the line of duty without notifying the supervisor.

Police did not say when Cooper’s violations occurred, but told the Dallas Morning News that he crashed into a suspect during an unauthorized chase and then swore at him.

More information about incidents related to Cooper’s violations was not available on Wednesday morning.

Officer Aaron Cagle was suspended 20 days for arrest on charges of interference with public duties and public intoxication.

According to police, Cagle was arrested in March 2022 after an argument outside a bar in northwest Dallas. According to the affidavit, officers were trying to break up a fight near Cowboys Red River when they found Cagle in the middle of an argument.

When one officer yelled, “Dallas PD, stand back,” Cagle tried to push past. [the officer] yelling, “I’m a cop,” the sworn letter says.

According to the affidavit, the police arrested Cagle and noted that he had “unbalanced balance, slurred speech, and breath of alcohol.”

Police said Cagle joined the department in 2017 and works downtown. He was placed on administrative leave for the duration of the investigation by the internal affairs authorities.
