The Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation is looking for a Communications and Marketing Intern

Would you like to spend a summer internship addressing some of the most pressing issues of our time while gaining valuable skills to help you in your own education and career path? The Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation (CELF) is recruiting a summer intern to join our dynamic team in Houston, Texas. CELF interns gain a diverse set of meaningful experiences and relevant skills that are applicable to a wide range of areas of study, from communications and education to environmental sciences and public policy.

Through this internship, you will support CELF staff in our mission of making sustainability an integral part of every K-12 child’s learning experience, preparing our next generation with the skills to build a more sustainable and equitable future. CELF programs and workshops enable educators to integrate the concepts of sustainability and citizenship sciences into their teaching. Interns will contribute to the mission of CELF in the following three main areas:

  1. Communications: Work with social networks, photo documentation, communication and operational tasks in cooperation with the COO.
  2. Education support: Preparation and implementation of summer programs, including civil sciences and CELF in the field, in collaboration with the educational team in New York and Texas.
  3. Resource development: Development of educational resources and content materials in collaboration with the education team.

Responsibilities:

  • Impact Analysis: Organize participant assessments and surveys, analyze and summarize impact metrics and case studies.
  • Social Media: Create and schedule posts across multiple platforms.
  • Update CELF website using WordPress as directed
  • Program Planning Support: Assistance with all aspects of CELF program planning (virtual, hybrid and in-person), including education support, event promotion, audio/visual and print production, and website updates.
  • Digital Storytelling: Document, catalog and share photos, videos, teacher interviews and testimonials
  • Project Management: Track Task Progress with Trello
  • The final project will be agreed at the beginning of your internship for your professional
    portfolio. Past examples include: documentary video, Google website, portfolio.
    presentation, completed grant application, etc.

In return, CELF interns will receive mentoring to guide potential career paths in the non-profit, educational, and/or public sectors.

Location: This is a hybrid internship

  • Basically, you will be working remotely from your chosen location. (Interns provide their own computers and communications equipment.)
  • As an intern from Texas, you are expected to (if possible) participate in at least two full-time programs in Houston.

Duration: Start and end dates correspond to the trainee’s academic schedule

  • 12 weeks from April/May to August 2023
  • 30 hours per week

Profile: The ideal candidate has…

  • Passion for educational reform, climate change, environmental justice and/or social change
  • Curiosity about sustainability topics such as the science of climate change, the root causes of environmental injustice, civic education, and the impact of student advocacy.
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative environment where creativity is encouraged

Qualification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, especially in a professional context
  • Proactive and solution oriented, able to take the lead on issues/problems
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • technical skill with
    • Productivity apps (Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Zoom)
    • Social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn)
    • Website and social media analytics
    • WordPress (plus)
    • Video editing like iMovie (plus)
    • CRM and/or database management (plus)
    • Design tools like Canva or Photoshop (plus)
  • Optional and useful experience:
    • Knowledge of ecology, law and/or social justice
    • Adult Education, Program Development and Evaluation
    • Working with students in a formal or informal setting
    • Knowledge of content areas relevant to CELF work such as nature/place-based education, project-based learning, community organizing, the Sustainable Development Goals, etc.

This internship includes a $1,400 scholarship. CELF supports internships with credit and additional funding from eligible higher education institutions.
