Celebrity Chef David Chang Slams Costco’s ‘Disgusting’ Grilled Chicken

David Chang, the celebrity chef who founded Michelin-starred restaurant Momofuku, isn’t a big fan of Costco’s grilled chicken.

“I got a rave review,” Chang said during an episode of The David Chang Show podcast this week.

“I think Costco chicken is the worst grilled chicken,” he said.

“They are not good. They are not seasoned.

Chang continued, “The reason it’s important to season it properly is because you can eat it cold the next day, and it should be delicious when cold.”

“And there’s something about all that nitrate and all that shit they pump into that chicken that makes that chicken breast even more disgusting the next day when it’s cold… It’s inedible. It really is.”

The Post has requested a comment from Costco.

Chung said the $4.99 price tag makes it attractive to some buyers.

“If I was like a weightlifter on Atkins [diet] then I would just buy it non-stop,” he said.

Chang also complained that while shopping at Costco, he had to buy two chickens, even though he only wanted one.

Although he only had to pay $25, which is about the price of a single chicken in an average supermarket, Chang said the packaging left a lot to be desired.

“When I got home, I realized that they were packed in one giant bag together,” he said.

Chang said he planned to cook one and put the other in the freezer, but the associated cleanup made him change his mind. In the end, he decided to freeze both chickens.

“Once you open this plastic, a geyser of chicken juice will pour everywhere,” Chang said.

Chang said Costco grilled chicken "not good" as "they are not seasoned."

“You know what’s going to happen now,” he said.

“That’s when I know I’m turning into a mom. I will buy a fresh chicken before using these two frozen chickens.”

Chang added, “It’s a dilemma and that’s why, as a developed country, we’re all going to die in hell.”

The restaurateur praised the Costco brisket, which he bought for $49, but would have gladly paid $149.

“If you bought this at Whole Foods, it would be $150,” Chang said.

Costco sought to cut costs during a period of record high inflation. Last year, the company stuck to its plan to keep the combination of hot dogs and sodas affordable at $1.50.

However, Chang was critical of the fact that Costco does not offer bags to its customers when visiting their stores.

“It’s like going to a restaurant with no silverware,” he said.
