Caught on camera: feral pigs roam destroying yards in McKinney; residents share concerns

“It’s like someone took these cultivators and just[ed] right here,” said Fred Turner, describing the devastation in their front yards.

McKinney, Texas. Over the past few days, a herd of wild pigs has been observed in two northern areas of McKinney. While some neighbors say they live for about a year, the latest sightings have attracted a lot of attention because they were caught on camera.

Neighbors in the Erwin Farms and Timber Creek areas saw three good-sized feral pigs on Thursday morning as the children left for school.

“They were literally running right in front of me,” said Mike Danielson, homeowner and realtor.

“They ran across the field and ran right where those houses are,” he said.

“I was in the car. My daughter said, “Dad, make a video!” recalls another neighbor, TJ Trusty.

By now, if you haven’t seen the pig videos that are circulating on social media, you’ve probably seen the devastation that followed.

“It’s like someone took these cultivators and just[ed] right here,” said Fred Turner.

Turner told the WFAA that he has been reaching out to city, county, state and federal agencies for an answer to the problem of feral pigs in their area. He says he came across several roadblocks. He has been linked to a hunter who lives outside the area.

“We love development and we all want apartments, but we need a plan. No one seems to have a solution,” Turner said.

The game inspector told the WFAA that the more we develop the land, the more these feral pigs will move. The catchers have already asked for help in the McKinney area.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department recommended contacting the Texas A&M Agricultural Extension Service as pigs are an invasive and non-native species.

“Two years ago, it was all just a field,” Danielson said, pointing to the houses in front of him.

Something has to be done, because wherever these pigs go, destruction follows.
