Brett Maher: The Cowboys are likely to bring in another kicker to compete, the report says.

Brett Maher missed his first four extra-point attempts in the team’s wildcard playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

DALLAS — After a record-breaking performance that no NFL player wants to participate in, Dallas Cowboys kicker Brett Maher could potentially compete with his team in the next playoff game.

Dallas will likely bring in another kicker to take on Maher for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Maher missed his first four extra-point attempts in the team’s wildcard playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cowboys owner, president and general manager Jerry Jones joined “Shan & RJ” on Audacy 105.3 “The Fan”. [KRLD-FM] Tuesday and said the Cowboys would “look” at Maher’s situation.

“It has a lot to do with just, frankly, mentally putting it all together when you step in there,” Jones said. “So, we will be reading this material for a week. I don’t want to go skiing and get ahead of him. I thought when he came out at halftime, I watched him warm up there. He drank everything. I thought it was behind him, but we’ll take a look at it. We can not [afford] a big setback to get through the rest of this tournament, the rest of this playoff with a shake in the kicker.”

The Cowboys will also be poised for more two-point conversions and fourth downs, according to Jones. Dallas was 2-2 on the fourth down against the Buccaneers and even went for it on 4th and 4th off the Tampa Bay 18-yard line with 10:18 left in the game, leading 24-6.

In the first half of a game with the Bucks, Maher hit the right post on his first two attempts. Then he made a third attempt to the left. And then, in the third quarter, he hit his fourth extra shot from the right post.

According to StatMuse, nine other kickers in NFL history can claim missed three PATS in a game.

Maher missed four first.

The 33-year-old kicker also missed his only PAT attempt in the Cowboys’ Week 18 game against the Washington Commanders.

This means he missed five consecutive extra points attempts in two weeks.

Ahead of Monday’s game, Maher missed just six extra points in 134 attempts in his four-year career. And that figure includes a miss in Washington. So Maher missed as many XP attempts in his last two games (5) as he did in his career through week 18.
