Book, Texas Parks 100th Anniversary Traveling Art Exhibition

HOUSTON – An art exhibit and book will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Texas State Park System.

Conservationist Andrew Sansom and author Linda J. Reeves collaborated with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to produce “Texas State Parks Art, Centenary Celebration, 1923–2023“.

In a press release, the department describes the book as an attempt to create “a lasting visual record of Texas state parks in art while commemorating the past and current development of Lone Star’s unique collection of parks and natural areas.” ”

For the book, published by Texas A&M University Press, 30 Texas artists were commissioned to create paintings depicting state parks.

Proceeds from the sale of the book and artwork will benefit the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.

The art exhibit will travel to museums across the state. The schedule includes stops at: Bullock Texas State Historical Museum in Austin, January 7 through April 30; Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, May 26-October. 1; and the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Oct. 27-Feb. eighteen.
