Biden gaffe: President hits .500 in January, misses every other day

In January, President Biden averaged just under half a workday’s gaffe as he spent most of the month dodging press questions about his possession of classified documents.

Biden tried to divert attention from the classified documents scandal by focusing on issues such as border security, Ukraine, the January 6 riots and infrastructure. But those speeches have included ongoing new gaffes by the gaff-prone president.

“I want the tape to show that I don’t know what questions I didn’t answer,” Biden told reporters at a joint event with Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

This confusion was evident during the month when Biden sang a birthday greeting to the wife of Martin Luther King Jr. at breakfast at MLK, but appeared to have forgotten her name. He mistakenly said “July 6” at an event marking the January 6, 2021 riots at the Capitol. He paused to remember the title of the Defense Minister, which he called “Minister of War” during a speech about Ukraine.

He wrestled several times during a frontier speech with Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he again erroneously identified as president. Biden said that “20,000 pounds of fentanyl is enough to kill 1,000 people in this country”, which is a serious mathematical error since that amount of fentanyl could kill an estimated 4 billion people. As he left this press conference, he was asked if he was following the heated election of the speaker of the House of Representatives.

“I’m watching you with a lot… uhh… How should I put it?” Biden asked.

“Attention,” Harris said, helping him finish the sentence.

“Attention,” Biden repeated.

“I’ll paraphrase a phrase from my old neighbor: the rest of the world – the world – is not a patch on our jeans. If we’re doing what we want, we need to do it,” Biden said.
