After icing, Bedford woman thanks neighbors for kindness and unique ice-clearing methods

In one area of Bedford, as in many others, children can play and neighbors look after each other.

So it was no surprise to Pam Lynch, who recently had knee surgery, to see her neighbor on a motor scooter clear the ice from the driveway.

“It means so much to me,” Lynch said. – He is a friend. He is kind. He will do it for anyone.”

But what surprised her was what Jeff Coben did right before that. He used his motor scooter to help Lynch’s attending physician get to her front door over the ice.

“She was holding on to his cart and he helped her get to the door,” Lynch said. “He had a shovel and started shoveling ice.”

Coben used his ice crusher and scooter to break off the ice to clear the way back.

It was then that he received unexpected help from several local young hockey players.

“I break the ice and they throw from behind, and the hockey stick throws them into the yard, and we cleaned everything,” said helpful neighbor Jeff Coben.

The kindness of the young neighbors really scored a goal on their neighbors.

“I’m from an era where you know community service and do something for the neighborhood,” Coben said. “So, seeing other little kids go out and do what I like.”

“I thought they were learning what it means to care and help from someone who cares and helps everyone else.”

Exactly the sight Lynch needed on a frosty day.

“I have to tell you that I shed a few tears because it made me feel warm and grateful,” Lynch said. Thanks for the friendly neighbors.
