North Texas Congressman Submits Articles of Impeachment to Secretary of Homeland Security

Republican Rep. Pat Fallon says he wants to impeach DHS Secretary Alejandro Majorcas over his response to immigration and the southern border.

DALLAS. The North Texas congressman wants to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mallorcas for his response to immigration and the southern border.

Republican Rep. Pat Fallon said on Tuesday he has filed articles of impeachment against Majorcas for “serious crimes and misdemeanors.” The articles were referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the text of the resolution was not yet available on the Congress website.

Fallon, who represents parts of Collin and Rockwall counties, as well as the Sherman area, said last week that he intends to file articles of impeachment amid the continued increase in the number of migrants illegally crossing the US through the southern border.

“Secretary of State Majorcas’ deliberate actions have undermined our immigration system, undermined the morale of border patrols, and endangered US national security,” Fallon tweeted on January 3, 2023: “He broke the law and it’s time for him to leave. “

Fallon’s resolution was originally filed on January 3, but due to the tumultuous voting process to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the submission was delayed.

In a statement to ABC News, a DHS spokesperson said:

“Secretary Mallorcas is proud to promote the noble mission of this Department, support its outstanding staff, and serve the American people.

The Department will continue our work to enforce our laws and secure our borders, while creating a safe, orderly and humane immigration system. Members of Congress can do more than point the finger at someone else; they should sit down at the negotiating table and work on solutions to our broken system and outdated laws that they haven’t updated in over 40 years.”

Fallon’s move also came after President Joe Biden made his first visit to the US-Mexico border during his presidency. Biden went to El Paso and walked along the border wall with border agents.

There, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott personally handed Biden a letter containing recommendations that the president could take to improve conditions on the border.

fall on was critical Biden’s visit, stating, “My Republican colleagues and I have proposed solution after solution, but we haven’t seen any action from your administration.”

Biden tweeted about his border visit and said, “We can come together to fix this broken system. We can protect the border and make the immigration process orderly, fair, safe and humane.”
