A woman who worked two jobs to pay for her mother’s cancer treatment is found decapitated in Waller County.

The Waller County Sheriff’s Office said Jared James Deekus was charged with murder after his 21-year-old wife was found decapitated in their home.

WALLER COUNTY, Texas. A decapitated woman was found in a small house in the wooded countryside of Waller County on Wednesday. Waller County Sheriff’s Office.

She was identified as Anggie Diaz, 21. Her husband, Jared James Deekuswas charged with her murder, Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry confirmed.

Deputies were summoned to the Oak Hollow house shortly before 4:30 p.m. in connection with a dead woman. When they arrived at the scene, they found Diaz in the couple’s small house behind his parents’ house.

Guidry said that it appears that a kitchen knife was used in the murder of Diaz. He also said calls had previously been received from home about riots, but “nothing like this or the level of violence.”

“This is the world we live in today. It’s a terrible scene,” Guidry said. “Both sides of these families will be changed by this.”

The sheriff said that Diaz’s head appears to have been cut off and her decapitated body was left in the house.

Deekus stayed at home until help arrived. According to detectives, he and his family were brought in for questioning, and he later confessed to the murder. This remains an ongoing investigation.

Friends of Diaz told KHOU 11 that she is from Nicaragua and works two jobs to try to pay for her mother’s cancer treatment at home.

Her colleagues described her as a young woman full of joy and said that she was always smiling.

Diaz and Deekus just got married in October 2022 after they met at her job. Her friends said that immediately after the wedding they realized that something was wrong, but did not expect it to end like this.

A GoFundMe page was created to help raise money for her funeral. In addition, a vigil in her honor will be held at Oak Hollow Park in Magnolia on Saturday.
