Police say the suspect matched the description of a burglary suspect from another area of Colleyville last week.
Officers saw the suspect jumping over fences at Stonecrest Estates, Montclair Parc and Chelsea Park.
The backpack, abandoned in the suspect’s area, contained a gun, bullets and what the police called “hacking tools”.
The Southlake police dog used the smell from the backpack to find the suspect.
Shortly before noon, a 32-year-old man was detained.
Police say they are working to link the man to other possible crimes.
