A North Texas resident has filed a lawsuit against an MP over a breach of confidentiality.

DALLAS. A Dallas County sheriff’s deputy was sued after he broadcast a traffic stop on TikTok and disclosed personal information about the person being stopped, according to the lawsuit.

Torri Osby, a Tarrant County resident, filed a lawsuit against MP Francisco Castillo in connection with the March 2, 2021 incident.

The lawsuit stated that Castillo was live streaming to more than a hundred people under the TikTok username “CycoCisco” when he stopped traffic on Osby. According to the lawsuit, in August 2021, the deputy had more than 13 thousand subscribers.

The lawsuit stated that Castillo stopped Osby for speeding, but Osby claimed that he was using cruise control at the time and was exceeding the speed limit. Osby ultimately received a verbal warning instead of a citation.

During the stoppage, the lawsuit stated that Castillo showed Osby’s driver’s license to viewers of the live broadcast and disclosed identifying information such as Osby’s address and license number.

According to the lawsuit, Osby learned that his information had been exposed after one of the viewers of the live broadcast contacted him and alerted him to what had happened. The lawsuit stated that Osby did not know the stop was being broadcast live.

The lawsuit included a screenshot that showed Castillo had Osby’s driver’s license and the information was shown to viewers.

The lawsuit alleges that Castillo violated Osby’s right to privacy and that the Dallas County legislator only stopped the movement “in an attempt to get more likes and followers for his TikTok account.”

According to the lawsuit, Osby seeks monetary compensation for alleged violations of Texas privacy laws, as well as damages.

“Mr. Osby continues to suffer mental and emotional suffering as a result of the wrongful conduct of the defendant Castillo… Mr. Osby was horrified that his identity would be stolen or that his house would be broken into because his address was provided…”, the lawsuit states.

After the incident, the lawsuit stated that Osby filed a complaint with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, which led to an internal investigation.

According to the lawsuit, investigators found that Castillo violated the department’s social media policy, resulting in his suspension.

In a statement to the WFAA, the sheriff’s office said Castillo was suspended for two days without pay.

“Deputy Castillo remains in our service. [sic] and did not conduct any other internal affairs investigations. Given that this case is under litigation, there will be no further comment, ”the sheriff’s office said in an updated statement to the WFAA on Thursday, March 9.

Osby is seeking a jury trial for his lawsuit, the documents say.
