17-year-old girl was hospitalized after she was shot dead by police officer Tracy

An officer shot and killed a 17-year-old who was holding a knife in Tracy’s hands on Friday afternoon, police said.

The incident took place near Silvertail Place and Foxtail Way.

Tracy police said at 1:47 p.m., officers responded to “suspicious circumstances” between the two men, with the caller saying that one man was holding a knife and was chasing the other.

The Tracy Police Department said in a statement: “When the first officer arrived around 1:56 p.m. and contacted the man with the knife, the suspect approached the officer.”

Officials added that the suspect was instructed to stop and drop the knife. They said the suspect didn’t follow orders as he approached the officer.

“Fearing for his safety and the safety of those who were in the area, the officer used his service firearm, injuring a man. A large knife was recovered from the scene,” Tracy said in a police statement.

The 17-year-old was taken to the hospital in a serious but stable condition. He is expected to survive.

Police said the officer who fired the pistol, a 28-year veteran of the squad, was unharmed.
