The ceremony of laying the monument to the deceased deputy

FORT MYERS, FL – Southwest Florida Public Service Academy added 44th Memorial brick honoring Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Deputy First Class Christopher Taylor to his Fallen Officers Memorial on Monday, January 30, 2023

Deputy Taylor, 23, died in the line of duty after he was hit by a motorist on I-75 during a traffic stop in November.

Cassandra Smith, 30, faces six charges, including death-related drunk driving, according to a Charlotte County court record.

Smith is being blamed for the plane crash that killed 23-year-old MP Christopher Taylor. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that Smith veered off the highway and crashed into Taylor’s patrol car, which he was standing near, stopping traffic in the presence of a third person.

Christopher Taylor graduated from the Academy in February 2022 with 163rd The base class of law enforcement.

The ceremony included brief appearances by Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prammell, Public Service Academy Director Todd Everly, and the unveiling of a memorial stone by family members.
