1.2 million candles sold at Walmart recalled due to fire risk

The candle wick may burn too close to the container wall, causing the glass to crack or break.

WASHINGTON. A company that makes candles for one of Walmart’s own brands is recalling 1.2 million candles it says pose a fire hazard or even harm consumers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

The recalled candles are 14 oz Mainstays branded three-wick round candles. glass jars that were sold in various Halloween and autumn themed fragrances.

The candle wick may burn too close to the container wall, causing the glass to crack or break. The company received 12 messages about it; there was one fire report, several reports of damage to nearby objects, and one person reported a minor cut.

The recalled candles include the following fragrances: Jack-O-Lantern, Mysterious Mist, Warm Apple Pie, Warm Autumn Leaves, Autumn Farmhouse, Pumpkin Spice and Magic Potion.

The candles were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and on walmart.com from September 2022 to November 2022.
