Zelensky responded to Americans who believe that the United States supports Ukraine too much

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is warning Americans who believe the United States is sending too much aid to his country.

“I would like to thank all the American people who support Ukraine: the Congress, the president, TV channels, journalists and everyone who supported us,” Zelensky replied.

He added: “And this percentage of Americans… is increasing, I can only tell them one thing: if they don’t change their minds, if they don’t understand us, if they don’t support Ukraine, they will lose NATO, they will lose the influence of the United States, they will lose their leading positions they enjoy in the world.”

Jill Biden denies speculation about whether the US president will run for re-election

As Ukraine’s efforts to repel a Russian invasion enter their second year, there seems to be a growing perception that the US is sending too much aid. According to Pew Research, 7% of Americans thought Ukraine was getting too much support in March 2022. As of January 2023, that number is up 26%.

There are plenty of reasons for conservatives to resist or be skeptical of aid to Ukraine.

Some expressed concern over reports that the US could run out of self-defense ammunition with Ukraine’s support. Others may have a philosophical opposition to foreign aid and especially foreign military aid.

However, other conservatives believe that NATO provoked Russia to invade Ukraine by accepting more and more countries of Eastern Europe into its ranks. They also fear that the conflict could escalate into a continent-wide or world war.

Do you think the US is too supportive of Ukraine?

Yet other conservatives believe that the war is a distraction for President Joe Biden from dealing with issues such as the border or the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, or countering China.

In addition, there is a group that believes that aid prolongs the war and causes more unnecessary suffering, and that Ukraine should end the war by agreeing to hand over part of its territory to Russia.

Of course, Zelensky has his shortcomings. It is not perfect, and the Ukrainian government has a problem with corruption. And Zelenskiy made mistakes that opponents of aid to Ukraine used to cast doubt on the seriousness of the war, such as his Vogue photo shoot.

Although Russia is not better. During the war, he repeatedly struck at civilians. According to one estimate, Russia has destroyed 200 schools in Ukraine. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office has also previously spoken about the discovery of mass graves in cities recaptured from the Russians – and argued that there is evidence that some of the bodies in the graves were tortured.

In addition, an independent study by the Conflict Observatory, part of the Humanities Research Laboratory at the Yale School of Public Health, found that Russia attempted to resettle thousands of Ukrainian children from Russian-occupied territories and place them in re-education camps. He also accused Russia of forcibly adopting Ukrainian children.

Karine Jean-Pierre refuses to say whether Biden’s visit to East Palestine was considered

These are just some of the famous horrors committed by Russia. The list goes on and on.

The United States and the rest of the West will not tire of helping Ukraine repel an unprovoked invasion. This sends the message that as long as a country can survive the will of the international community, it can simply take over another country simply because it wants to.

Continuing to support Ukraine and ensuring that Russia pays a heavy price – as it loses thousands of soldiers and reduces its military capability – should make other countries think twice before trying to turn their neighbors around and lead to a more secure and stable world.
