Wisconsin dismemberment case: Accused woman attacked defense attorney

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin. – Taylor Shabiznes, the woman charged in the gruesome murder and dismemberment case in Green Bay, attacked her lawyer during a court hearing on Tuesday morning, Feb. 14. It came seconds after the judge said he was going to adjourn her March 6 trial.

Shabiznes, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder, mutilation and third-degree sexual assault for allegedly attacking Tyrion in February 2022. She pleaded not guilty and pleaded not guilty by reason of mental illness or defect.

Separate from the so-called declaration of insanity, also not yet resolved, is the defense’s contention that Shabiznes cannot stand trial. Competence refers to the defendant’s ability to understand legal proceedings and to assist in his own defense. If he is deemed competent, the case will proceed. If she is deemed incompetent, the case will be shelved until she receives further psychiatric treatment.

There were reports that Shabiznes was competent, but the defense also hired another expert to conduct a background check. However, his report is incomplete, attorney Quinn Jolly said Tuesday. He asked for two more weeks to testify.

Judge Thomas Walsh reluctantly agreed to stay the trial. Shabiznes then attacked Jolly and the MP knocked him to the ground.

The courtroom was vacated for a few minutes before the hearing resumed to discuss the schedule.

The adjourned hearing on the issue of legal capacity, which was supposed to take place today, was scheduled for March 6. The judge suggested setting a trial date for May 15.

Jolly then said he would file a motion to withdraw from the case, but the judge did not immediately rule on the matter.
