Winter weather makes its way through South Texas

A winter storm warning will be issued for the Hill Country later Monday morning.

SAN ANTONIO. On Monday morning, winter weather settled in South Texas.

From 9:00 a.m., a winter storm warning will be in effect in the Hill Country, freezing rain is expected.

As the temperature continues to drop, it can lead to dangerous driving conditions.

The National Weather Service says if you have to travel on a Monday, leave early because traffic conditions can get worse by around noon.

This may also be the case for people living north of the 1604 Loop.

A winter storm warning has been issued for Bexar County.

Roads in the Hill Country are safe to drive because it’s been warm lately, but it’s important to keep an eye on bridges and overpasses as they can collect water and freeze.

It might be like this until Wednesday.

  • If you are driving over a bridge or overpass, try not to swerve
  • No sudden movements
  • Don’t hit the brakes on icy roads
  • Press lightly
  • If you find yourself skidding, keep steering in the direction you want to go.

AAA also suggests postponing any travel until conditions improve.

But if you need to go out, let your loved ones know where you are going and what time you plan to get there.

It’s also a good idea to give yourself time and space between you and other cars.

Check the tire pressure and tread and fill the gas tank to at least half.

Ice on power lines and spurs could also be a problem in the eastern Hill Country on Wednesday.
