Wild video shows man thrown out of SUV in crash after jumping onto roof to stop car thieves

A shocking video showed a man being sent flying after climbing onto the roof of his car in a futile attempt to prevent it from being stolen in Queens, but the hijackers were violently crashed shortly after, police said.

The incident began when Toreney Thompson was in a shop in South Richmond Hill. Police said that was when the three teenage suspects saw his Lexus idling outside.

“He was at the door. He looked outside and saw that the door was closed. They are already in the car,” said Izzy Aldahim. “Then he told me to open the door. I opened the door for him. He went and followed them. Trying to open the door, he jumped onto the roof of the car.”

Thompson, 28, ran out of the store but couldn’t open the door to stop the thieves, so he jumped onto the roof of his car instead. Meanwhile, the thief at the wheel stepped on the gas and sped along Lefferts Boulevard.

The SUV sped off, with Thompson holding on for dear life, for a quarter of a mile before the driver lost control and crashed into a fire hydrant. Thompson was thrown into the air, landing on the pavement. The three suspects jumped out of the stolen SUV, which was now lying on its side, and fled, leaving the badly injured owner behind.

When the thieves got out of the overturned car, local residents ran to help Thompson, who was lying on the ground.

Thompson is in the hospital in critical condition. Two of the three suspects have been arrested and police sources said they are all teenagers.
