Who were the victims of the murder-suicide in Galena Park?

The woman’s boyfriend killed two of her daughters and a family friend before taking his own life over the weekend, investigators said.

GALENA PARK, Texas – Four people were killed last weekend in what seems murder-suicide in Galena Parkaccording to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

It happened around 10:30 pm at a house on 2nd Street near N. Main Street and Clinton Dr. Street.

The weekend quickly turned from a holiday to a tragedy for the families involved. They said that Friday is a birthday. By Monday, they were planning the funeral.

What’s happened

According to Gonzalez, the 12-year-old girl called the police and reported that she had just been sexually abused by her mother’s boyfriend. She said she was able to pick up her one-year-old niece and escape, but the man shot and killed several more people in the house before she had a chance to get out.

When the authorities got to the house, they said they found three girls who had been shot dead. Sisters Sayuri Gill, 19, and Melanie Torres, 13, were found dead, according to family members. They said that Gill was six months pregnant and was the mother of a one-year-old child who was saved by her sister. Family members said Laisha Perez, a 14-year-old family friend, was also killed in the shooting.

“They were happy. They were happy girls. They always smiled, even if I felt bad, they always had a positive comment,” the girls’ mother said through a family friend.

Authorities said a 38-year-old man was found dead in the main bedroom with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to Gonzalez, the man was in a relationship with the landlady, who is the mother of Gill, Torres and the surviving 12-year-old girl. The girls’ mother said she was at work at the time of the shooting. Gonzalez said the man was not the father of any of the girls he killed.

Gonzalez said the man started shooting at the girls after an argument, although a motive has not been confirmed. According to officials, he shot Gill and then shot Torres and Pérez. He then attacked a 12-year-old girl, and when he was done, told her to run for her life.

“He then proceeded to sexually abuse a 12-year-old girl who was in the residence,” Gonzalez said. “After that, he told her to go ahead and run out of the house … she did so and ran out of the residence without any clothes on.”

Here is an update provided by Gonzalez at the scene.

The 12-year-old survivor is taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries, the extent of which is unknown.

“It’s just a tragic situation. It doesn’t make sense, it’s all pointless and very tragic,” Gonzalez said. “But our investigators will try to piece it all together, and we express our condolences to the families of the victims and to everyone affected, as well as to the entire city.”

Help for families

A GoFundMe account was created to help with Perez’s funeral expenses. Another GoFundMe was created for Gill and Torres.

A fundraiser for Perez is held Tuesday at 5401 East Freeway in the parking lot between Family Dollar and Chevron.

The screening will take place next Monday and her funeral will take place the following day.

Neighbors are reacting

Neighbors said they were bewildered and shocked. Some have lost sleep due to the incident.

“No, I couldn’t… just thinking about those young girls who were dying. It’s just incredible,” said one of the neighbors.

Maria Del Consuelo Reyes-Hernandez rushed to the rescue when she saw a 12-year-old and a one-year-old survivor. She said that she saw a girl who was not wearing any clothes and who was carrying a child. She and another neighbor brought the girls and gave them clothes.

Reyes-Hernandez said the girl told her about what she had just gone through. She said the girl told her that she had run away from home after being sexually assaulted and said that she would be killed if she did not leave.
