“What’s going on with Bank of America?” Social media users urge financial giant over missing money

On Wednesday, Bank of America went viral on social media after many customers discovered that money was missing from their accounts. Worried consumers shared their experiences online, calling on the financial giant and demanding answers.

Downdetector, a consumer website, reported problems occurring with Bank of America around 10:30 am ET. Downdetector also reported that Zelle customers were reporting crashes about an hour earlier.

Social media is exploding

The financial giant’s timeline, from the average consumer to powerful political and business figures, has been filled with complaints in the form of posts and tongue-in-cheek memes.

One commenter showed up to ask the question everyone seemed to want to know by simply posting: “What’s going on with @BankofAmerica???”

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren expressed her disappointment and called for action.

“Obviously @BankofAmerica and @Zelle are failing customers again and the money is somehow disappearing from the accounts. This must be corrected immediately and the clients must be compensated. I have reported serious fraud issues to Zelle and this is their latest failure.” @SenWarren tweeted.

Chef Monica from Blends Inc. thanked Warren for speaking on behalf of the people.

“@SenWarren, thanks for responding. For months I begged for help, and then I had to speak out. Wrote corporate emails, which, by the way, I still have in @BankofAmerica in the “corporate-smash-and-grab” style. Who is protecting the USA? #CantStopBanking #BeCyberSmart”, @ChefMBlends published.

Verified Twitter account for @Geoffrey Fermin, co-founder of Officevibe, wrote: “Bank of America comes in early with its year-long mess. If you use BofA services, make sure that your money has not been transferred from his account.

Many others also protested, demanding answers.

“Money has disappeared from @BankofAmerica accounts. I am one of those thousands of people who have been affected by this. Check your account right now! @BofA_News #zelle #zelledown”, one client wrote.

“Ok, apparently my account wasn’t the only one attacked this morning by @BankofAmerica!!!!! Please fix this!” tweeted another.

“I see that the @BankofAmerica @Zelle issue has affected many POCs today. Has anyone else noticed the inconsistency today?” User the question of whether the problem affects only a certain demographic group.

A couple more tweets:

“If Zelle is in trouble, will it not be the same with other banks, such as the American bank or Chase. That’s exactly what BofA makes the public dirty. #Bank of America” - @exfatclown

“I am asking for help because the little money I had was destroyed. Bank of America customers are short on funds. Who can help me, I will be very grateful. I have zero funds now. Thank you! They are allegedly working on this situation.” – @SimoneSmithdix1

While Bank of America has not responded to comments on social media, as of this writing they sent KPRC 2 the following reply:

“Zelle transactions made between January 14th and 17th may be delayed and sent to accounts as requested. Transfers will be completed and appear in your account and balances as soon as possible. We apologize for the delay or inconvenience.”
