Weather in Dallas: Dallas ISD cancels Friday classes due to sleet

Dallas ISD has made the decision to cancel Friday’s classes after initially being told classes would start with a two-hour delay.

“Decisions about inclement weather are always complex and are made with deep care and caution. Following an additional assessment, the county will remain closed on Friday, February 3, 2023,” the county said in a statement released around 5:30 a.m.

District office staff will work remotely.

The county says a possible makeover day will be shared later.

DISD activities and weekend activities are expected to continue as scheduled.

On Thursday, the county planned to start delayed traffic, but temperatures dropped overnight and roads froze again, leading to dangerous driving conditions.

Explaining the decision, Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde said Thursday that the county could close if conditions were “unacceptable.”

Dallas ISD and nearly every other school in North Texas has been closed since Tuesday due to freezing weather.
