Watch: Firefighters Rescue Bride and Groom Trapped in Elevator for 2 Hours

When Panav and Victoria Jha got married, they had unexpected guests: firefighters from the Charlotte Fire Department.

On February 19, the couple, along with other members of the wedding party, got stuck in an elevator at a hotel in North Carolina for two hours.

“While Charlotte Fire was not officially invited, we weren’t the wedding planners either,” the fire department wrote on its Facebook page.

Officials said the rescue happened in the morning when six people got stuck in the hotel’s elevator between the first and second floors.

“When it first happened, I thought it stopped for a few seconds. It will start up again. And then we noticed that the door was slightly ajar,” Panaw Jah’s fiancé told WJZY.

“The elevator had a malfunction, and here we are. It was supposed to happen to the fiance and I was both stuck in an elevator. So, at least it was not only one of us,” said the bride Victoria.

Crews had to lift people up through the top of the elevator, allowing them to safely exit to the fourth floor. They posted a video of the rescue on their page on the social network.

As they were saving the wedding party, one of them remarked, “Please take my sister out next. She is in a wedding dress.

No injuries were reported.

“Mr. and Mrs. Jha, we hope that today will be the beginning of a long and happy life together,” the department added.
