Washington Post looks at ‘every possible regulatory change’ made under Trump and finds none contributed to East Palestine train derailment

Washington Post reviewed “every possible regulatory change” that had been made during the Trump administration and found that none of them contributed to the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.

“We decided to look into all possible regulatory changes made under Trump that could be related to the accident and assess whether they could have had an impact,” according to a review posted Monday by Glenn Kessler on Washington Post.

“Based on our analysis, none of the regulatory changes made under the Trump administration to date can be cited as the cause of the crash,” Kessler added.

A review of “every possible regulatory change” made under Trump comes after U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was called for falsely claiming that a proposed rule that was repealed in 2018 (under the Trump administration) contributed to the Ohio train crash.

Even a member of Biden’s own administration (National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chairman Jennifer Homendy) called Buttigieg’s claims about the East Palestine train derailment “disinformation.”

On Thursday, New York Times also acknowledged in the report that claims that former President Donald Trump’s administration was responsible for the train derailment in East Palestine due to the repeal of a rail safety rule are inaccurate.

But it was too late by then, as the false statement originally made by Buttigieg on February 14 had already circulated on social media, where people repeated the Transport Minister’s remarks, spreading confusion and lies online.

As Buttigieg pointed the finger at Trump, the 45th president visited East Palestine, where he delivered truckloads of bottled water to residents who are concerned about water quality in the area after a train derailment released toxic chemicals into the environment.

Trump’s visit to Ohio City was followed by Buttigieg, who visited East Palestine the next day. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has yet to visit the affected area.
