Volodymyr Zelensky spoke at the Golden Globe: “There will be no Third World War”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appeared at the Golden Globes ceremony on Tuesday evening, where he promised that his country would defeat Russian aggression.

After being introduced by actor Sean Penn, who has supported Zelensky since war broke out in early 2021, Zelensky shared a pre-recorded message thanking the United States for its continued support, adding that “the tide in the war is changing” .

“The First World War claimed millions of lives. World War II claimed tens of millions of them. There will be no third world war,” Zelensky said. “This is not a trilogy: Ukraine will stop Russian aggression on our soil.”

Zelensky also noted that World War II was coming to an end when the first Golden Globes were awarded in 1943.

“It is now 2023: the war in Ukraine is not over yet, but the situation is changing, and it is already clear who will win,” Zelensky said. “But there are still battles and tears ahead. But now I can tell you for sure who was the best last year: it was you, the free people of the free world, those who united around supporting the free Ukrainian people in our common struggle for freedom and democracy.”

“For the right to live, love, give birth. Whoever you are, wherever you are, whoever you are with, the struggle for the right of new generations to know about the war only from films, ”he added. “We will do this together. I hope that all of you will be with us on the day of victory: the day of our victory.”

Zelenskiy’s Golden Globe speech followed his speech to the US Congress in December and a visit to President Joe Biden. The final 2022 Consolidated Bill also sent an additional $45 billion to Ukraine and NATO allies.

Last year, Zelenskiy also gave a speech at the Grammy Awards in a video of him in a bunker.

“The silence of the destroyed cities and the killed people,” Zelensky said at the time. “Our children draw flying rockets, not shooting stars. More than 400 children were injured, 153 children died. And we will never see how they paint. Our parents are happy to wake up in the morning. In bomb shelters, but alive. Our loved ones don’t know if we’ll be together again.”

Oscar did not indicate whether Zelensky would be invited to speak during his telecast this year.
