Vaccines can now be obtained from home visits in DFW

For some families, even getting a flu vaccine can be a monumental task.

Such is the case with the Daniels family of Plano. “Just with all the different schedules we juggle, busy work and motherhood,” Lauren Daniels said of the difficulty.

Latoya visited his family, Medical Assistant Baylor Scott and White Health. She got flu shots right at the dinner table.

“I liked the idea of someone coming to my house instead of making another appointment at the office,” Daniels said.

The Baylor Scott & White Home Vaccine Program is designed to make this aspect of healthcare as convenient and hassle-free as possible.

“It is very difficult to figure out how to fit this into your day and into your life. And, especially if you’re like me and you have parents and kids, you know who you care about,” said Dr. Tiffany Berry, vice president of primary health care at Baylor Scott & White.

Berry says that easier access to such care improves the health of not only the individual, but society as a whole.

“We’re really just passionate about bringing this to you so you can be healthy,” Berry added.

So, here is how to access this service. Keep in mind you don’t have to be a Baylor patient to use it.

First login to your Account “My Health BSW”or create it. Family members can be included in one account.

Then click “Schedule Home Immunization” and proceed to book your home visit.

You will see a list of vaccines you are eligible for as they offer vaccines for Hepatitis B, Flu, Meningitis, Shingles, Pneumonia, COVID, and T-dap, including Whooping Cough. Make your choice, then go to the calendar to select the date and time. And yes, weekends are offered.

The cost is the same as when leaving the office.

“We’re not going to make a lot of money on this at all,” Berry said. “We just want to break even by providing services in a more convenient way. So we insure the bills, but really it’s just so we can cover the cost of the program as best we can.”

Justin and Lauren Daniels were both able to get their chimney pricks out on the same day.

“Having a trained nurse come to our home during our time, on our schedule, was fantastic,” said Justin Daniels. “Obviously you saw our little one running around. So, our life is pretty busy right now and this has made it very easy and convenient. So it was, it was wonderful.”

This service is only available in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. They do not offer vaccines for infants, but flu shots can be scheduled for children 3 years of age and older.

Another fun part: when a professional is driving to your house, you can track their arrival on your phone, just like Uber or food delivery.
