US sues Rite Aid for not having opioid red flags

The U.S. government sued Rite Aid Corp on Monday, accusing the drugstore chain of failing to red flag because it illegally wrote hundreds of thousands of prescriptions for controlled substances, including opioids.

IN Complaint filed in federal court in ClevelandThe Justice Department said that from May 2014 to June 2019, Rite Aid repeatedly wrote prescriptions that were medically unnecessary, for off-label use, or not issued in the normal course of professional practice.

“The Justice Department is using every tool at our disposal to fight the opioid epidemic that is killing Americans and devastating communities across the country,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement.
