A pizza place in San Francisco received some bad reviews on Yelp after the San Francisco Police Officers Association, a union representing the SFPD, tweeted that one of the employees “told a few of our officers they were not welcome at the restaurant.”
The owner of the store is Pizza Squared, located at the address: st. Brannan, 885. —apparently apologized in a short time. But that wasn’t enough to stop the deluge of negative tweets and a few negative Yelp reviews.
Twitter user Maria Vargas wrote that the owner’s apology was not enough for her: “If the employee is not fired, I do not plan to go there,” they wrote.
Others seemed to support the employee’s opinion. David Hellman, artist based in San Francisco. replied to SFPOA tweet with this: “Try to just leave people alone when they ask, instead of harassing and intimidating them! I’m sure you can buy pizza elsewhere, pigs.”
Another San Francisco-based Twitter user, Matt Card, also appeared to support the unnamed employee, writing: “The employee was trying to protect himself, other employees and customers.”
As of January 29, the day the SFPOA tweet was posted, the restaurant’s Yelp page has at least one 1-star review directly related to the incident. “They don’t like cops!!” wrote Yelper of San Francisco, known by the pseudonym Annie T. “They were rude to them and told the cops to leave. ! When they didn’t do anything wrong! Don’t patrol this place.”
Other Yelpers, including Samson H. of Victoria, Canada, added as well, saying in a January 29 review that they had “a terrible experience at the pizzeria.” It looks like it was just one of three full Yelp reviews the user has ever written.
