UPS driver delivers aid to a woman in need in Arkansas

Frederick Stevens has traveled many miles in his UPS truck. Delivering packages, he helped bring an elderly woman home safely.

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas. No matter how many miles have been driven or delivered, you will never hear Frederick Stevens complain about what he does.

What makes Stevens love his job so much?

“Meeting people,” Stevens said. “Speak [and] interaction with people.

Because as cliche as it sounds, if you love what you do, you won’t have to work a day in your life.

“People usually ask me, ‘Why are you waving to everyone who walks by?'” Stevens said. “I said it’s just the old village mentality, you drive on the highway, you just wave your hand.”

However, even the best work has a few bad days—Stevens himself has seen a few.

“It was a really tough day, I was running behind,” Stevens said.

On that day, he delivered not only a package, but also kindness. Stevens said that during a short break during a work shift, a woman approached his truck.

“This old lady drove up, gave me a card and asked, ‘How far am I from this place?’,” Stevens said. “She said, ‘I don’t know where I am.’ She said, “Can you help me?”

This card was her driver’s license. She had just left the bank, and although Stevens had never met her before, he knew he had to help.

“She said, ‘Something just told me you’re a good person, so can you help me?'” Stevens said.

Stevens quickly called 911 and again his niece from the police department to make sure the officer could lend a helping hand. He took to Facebook to see if anyone knew the woman and even called her church to make sure someone knew where she was.

“I just couldn’t leave her there,” Stevens said. “Especially when she gave me all her information, she gave me the address, she told me how she just got out of the bank, so I knew she had money… if there was anyone else, they would have taken advantage of it.” .

After helping her escape, Stevens went even further and even went to her church one Sunday to make sure she was all right.

“Why not?” Stevens said. “I mean, it’s just something to make sure she’s okay.”

For Stevens, there really hasn’t been a bad day in his 34 years on the job—just an opportunity to smile again.

“You weren’t put into this world just for yourself, you were put into this world for other people,” Stevens said. “Even though it may seem that you are not receiving your reward, you will receive it. I mean, anyway, it might not be the person you’re helping, but you’ll get it.”
