Unsuspecting shooter detained in a New York store by plainclothes police: video

An unsuspecting gun-wielding goof was caught on the spot flashing his loaded gun in a Bronx deli right next to two plainclothes cops, a new video shows.

Video obtained by The Post shows a miniature hooded suspect, whom police have identified as 28-year-old Martin Mateo, displaying and brandishing a black .22 revolver inside a wine cellar on South Boulevard near East 149th Street near 4:40 am February 10th. .

Meanwhile, two plainclothes police officers stand on either side of the suspect, one drinking coffee and the other looking at his phone.

But as the shooter heads for the exit, the officers jump in and rush at the 120-pound, 5-foot-5 shooter, pinning him against the glass door and tucking his hands behind his back.

It is then shown how one of the officers pushes the suspect to the counter, where the employee is tending to the customer, and handcuffs him.

The gun Mateo was holding was loaded with three live rounds in a cylinder, according to the criminal case. Each cartridge is a metal case topped with a metal projectile.

According to a court document, Mateo claimed to have found the gun but never fired it.

“Yes, I had a gun,” he said. “I found him four days ago and kept him. I didn’t use it or buy it.”

Mateo has since been sued for gun possession and reckless endangerment and ammunition possession, according to the criminal complaint.

He was ordered to be held on a $20,000 cash bail and a $100,000 bail or $100,000 partially secured bail at 10 percent.

His next trial date has been set for March 7.

Mateo has three open arrests — one for federal conspiracy charges since February 2018, and two assaults — one since April 2017 and the other since November 2011, police said.
