Tyre Nichols death: Memphis police indict officer who allegedly used a taser during a traffic stop
Memphis police said it filed charges against another officer following a January 7 traffic stop that took Tyre Nichols to a local hospital, where he died a few days later.
The Memphis Police Department said in a statement that Officer Preston Hemphill has been fired and charged with “multiple” policy violations.
“The Memphis Police Department today reached an additional finding in its administrative investigation into the tragic death of Mr. Tyre Nichols. This is stated in the message of the police on Twitter.
The Memphis police charge Hemphill with the following violations:
SIXTH MEMPHIS POLICE OFFICER INVOLVED IN NICHOLS INVESTIGATION Released
- Personal behavior
- Truthfulness
- Compliance with the rules, namely: conductive energy weapons (TASER)
- Compliance with the Rules in part: Uniform (issued equipment)
- Inventory and processing of returned property
Officials told Fox News Digital on January 30 that Hemphill had been relieved of his post.

Hemphill allegedly used a stun gun on Nichols during a traffic stop on 7 January.
