Two construction workers hospitalized after church collapse in Stephenville

The incident took place at the First Baptist Church in Stephenville. One of the injured workers had to be airlifted to the hospital.

Stephenville, Texas. Two construction workers were hospitalized after the partial collapse of a church building in Stephenville, Texas on Wednesday, police said.

Police in Stephenville, about 68 miles southwest of Fort Worth in Erath County, said the fire department responded to the collapse of First Baptist Church shortly before 2 p.m.

Crews noticed that part of the building’s arched façade had collapsed on the steps of the church. Construction work is underway on the outside of the building to replace and clean the decorative façade, police said.

Police said two construction workers were on an extended hoist boom when debris fell on them.

One of the workers was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Worth and another was flown to a hospital in Stevenville.

Their condition is currently unknown.

No other casualties were reported inside or outside the building. Police said all activity inside the building was suspended pending an inspection.
