Two arrested after fleeing bus stop with toddler and opening fire on Cocoa police

COCOA, Florida. – A man and woman were arrested Wednesday night after they ran from a bus stop and opened fire on Cocoa police, according to the police department.

Police said they stopped the car to stop traffic, but the woman behind the wheel fled the stop.

After that, the man in the passenger seat fired at least three shots at the police, who then began the pursuit, the agency said in a social media post.

The officers said they pursued the vehicle on U.S. Highway 1 with the help of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver ended up crashing into another car in Titusville, and the man and woman in the fleeing car were taken into custody, police said. According to the agency, a baby was also found in the car, which was not properly secured.

The police said that neither the child nor the police were injured. The investigation is ongoing.
