Trump leads DeSantis by a wide margin in latest Florida Atlantic University poll.

In a recent poll conducted by the Florida Atlantic University Mainstreet PolCom Lab, it has been revealed that former President Donald Trump holds a substantial lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis among Republican primary voters in the Sunshine State. The survey, which involved 933 Florida voters, found that 50% of Republican voters expressed their support for Trump, while only 30% backed DeSantis.

Dr. Kevin Wagner, a professor of political science at FAU, acknowledged the significance of these findings, emphasizing Trump’s enduring popularity. According to Dr. Wagner, Trump’s unwavering support is especially evident among white working-class voters, who have consistently formed a stalwart base for the former president. This unwavering and long-lasting support continually strengthens Trump’s position within the party, solidifying his influence.

The poll further shed light on how a significant portion of Republican voters view allegiance and loyalty within the party. Out of the respondents, 20% believed that supporting a candidate other than Trump in the primaries would amount to disloyalty. This sentiment highlights the strong connection and commitment many Republican voters feel towards the former president, potentially shaping the dynamics of the upcoming primaries.

However, the survey also made a noteworthy observation regarding Governor DeSantis’ performance. It found that 54% of Floridians either “strongly” or “somewhat” approve of the job DeSantis is doing as governor. This indicates a substantial portion of the population appreciates and approves of his governance, despite Trump’s commanding lead in the primary race.

The FAU poll was carried out from June 27 to July 1, encompassing a wide range of voter opinions. It is essential to note that the survey does have a margin of error of +/- 3.2 percentage points, implying a slight allowance for potential discrepancies in the results. Nonetheless, these findings provide valuable insights into the preferences and sentiments of Florida’s Republican primary voters, highlighting the enduring support for Donald Trump while recognizing Governor Ron DeSantis’ significant approval ratings.
