Trump expresses confidence when asked about hypothetical matchup with DeSantis

Former President Donald Trump appears confident when it comes to a potential matchup against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (right).

During an interview with David Brody on The Water Cooler, Trump shared his reaction to rumors surrounding DeSantis’ potential bid for the White House in 2024.

“I achieved his election in its purest form. He would never… And there was no reason to go crazy supporting him. So now I hear that he might want to run against me. So we will do as I do,” Trump said.

Last month, Trump participated in a poll showing DeSantis defeating him in a potential match for the Republican nomination.

“An excellent survey has just been conducted compared to many others, including [President Joe] Biden, but I still have to put up with the same old “stuff” from The Wall Street Journal, which has lost untold amounts of influence over the years, and Fox News, whose polls about me have been seriously WRONG since the day I walked down the escalator in Trump Tower to announce his 2016 run, Trump said.

DeSantis led Trump 52% to 38% in a Wall Street Journal poll released last month.

Dan Eberhart, a GOP donor who supports DeSantis, previously told NBC News, “DeSantis is on the rise and Trump is increasingly afraid the GOP will leave him for dead.”

He added: “Trump will not let DeSantis seize his throne without a fight. We are on the eve of a civil war in the Republican Party.”

DeSantis began his second term as governor in January, emphasizing that Florida will not be home to the “woke up.”

“We reject this awakened ideology. We are looking for normality, not philosophical madness. We will not let reality, facts, and truth become optional,” DeSantis said during his inaugural address.

He added: “We will never surrender to an awakened crowd. Florida is a place where people wake up to die.”
