Trenton firefighters extinguish sixth ‘working fire’ since Sunday afternoon

TRENTON, New Jersey (MERCER). Members of the Trenton Fire Department once again demonstrated their skill and efficiency by quickly extinguishing the fire at the parish home of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church this morning (Wednesday, January 11).

It was the sixth active fire in the city since Sunday afternoon (January 8).

A fire was reported this morning in the 400th block on Adeline Street just after 10:30. Vehicles 3, 7 and 10, Ladder 2, Rescue Service 1 and battalion commander Dave Smolka were sent on the initial mission.

A column of smoke was visible in the air when firefighters arrived and Engine 3 arrived and found flames coming out of a third floor window. An “All Hands” signal was transmitted to an active fire and additional firefighting units were dispatched, including “Machine 1” and “Ladder 4”.

Firefighters deployed two hose lines and were able to quickly put out the bulk of the fire and limit damage to a small area of ​​the building. At 10:55 the fire was officially extinguished.

It was the sixth working fire since Sunday.

Sunday “workers” engaged the back of the old Mercer Medical Center compound on Rutherford Avenue around 2:00 pm, a 12:00 house on South Broad Street around 2:30 p.m., and another house on the 500 block on Emory Avenue. Later Sunday, around 11:40 p.m., the fourth fire of the day was reported at an abandoned home on the 100th block of Cleveland Avenue.

And early yesterday morning, just after 4:30 a.m., Trenton firefighters were battling another active fire at a home on Landing Street.
