For the second time this year, a female inmate committed suicide at the Lucerne County Correctional Facility on Water Street in Wilkes-Barre.
The latest death was a 25-year-old woman on Monday, according to a report released Wednesday by County Coroner Jill Matthews.
The prisoner was declared dead in prison. Pathologist Dr. Charles Siebert performed an autopsy on Tuesday, and Matthews ruled that the cause of death was hanging and the method was suicide.
County Attorney’s Office is investigating the death, the coroner said in a statement.
The name of the detainee is not indicated in the protocol.
In January, the district attorney’s office confirmed it was investigating the death of a 36-year-old inmate who was taken to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for a suicide attempt, according to a previously released report. At the hospital, she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy showed that she had committed suicide, and the method of death was listed as hanging.
