This Single-Family Home in Queens Could Be Yours for $15 Million (Or You Can Buy a Yacht)

This is a dream home because any buyer would have to be unconscious to pay such a price.

A century-old two-level clapboard house in Jamaica in Queens is currently up for sale for a mind-blowing $15 million.

Luxurious amenities include 1.5 bathrooms, three bedrooms, a rusty mesh fence and a kitchen-dining area.

It’s located in an area that’s seeing an increase in violence, according to NYPD data, with the local 103rd Precinct reporting violent crime up 9.5% this year and burglary up 35.7% .

The two-story home sits on a 20-by-100-foot lot and was listed for sale in June 2020 for $10 million.

An asking price comparable to a historic Upper East Side townhouse has real estate experts racking their brains. In fact, for $15 million, you can get your own private island off the coast of Belize with better beach views than Jamaica Bay.

The property’ will be in the New York Post [again] for the biggest drop from starting price,” joked one veteran Big Apple broker. “I don’t think they’re getting $550,000 for it.”

“They’re testing the limits of the market from a distance,” laughs appraiser Jonathan Miller, who said the average selling price for a single-family home in southern Queens is $678,000.

The 26-year-old family member who owns the home, who did not identify himself because he claims the family received death threats over the announcement, defended the attractive price.

“Look around, there’s a lot of development going on,” he said. “There was an old open area next to this house that was sold for a couple of million and became an apartment building.”

It is listed as a “good investment property” in the broker’s database and is located in the R6A zone, which allows the construction of 6-8 story apartment buildings, although usually on much larger lots.

City records show there have been seven-figure sales lately.

An apartment building across the street with twice the size of the lot sold for $1.7 million in 2018, before permits were filed in 2020 to build a six-story building on the lot.

However, the announcement drew the ire of neighbors and online onlookers, the salesperson said.

“People are jealous,” he snorted. “It’s in human nature that being someone who started from scratch, owning real estate and then selling it for a huge insane amount to move somewhere else, people are jealous of that.”
