This part of Texas saw snow during Friday’s storms

Residents of Amarillo got to see a rare sight in Texas on Friday, snow.

AMARILLO, Texas — Most Texans know that the weather in the state can be unpredictable, but sometimes it can surprise even long term residents. At least one city in the Panhandle was lucky enough to witness a rare sight for the Lone Star State on Friday: Snow.

The National Weather Service Amarillo shared a video capturing snowflakes falling outside of the Amarillo airport.

According to the NWS, temperature got down to 35 degrees, cold enough to see a mix of both snow and rain coming down. While it did not quite look like a winter wonderland, the NWS did say that snow could accumulate in grassy areas.

The NWS was not the only one to capture the rare snowfall however, several other residents also shared their own videos of the North Texas flurry.

While Texans may not be able to enjoy snowmen, snow angels or snowball fights just yet, Amarillo’s mini-blizzard was still enough to capture the excitement of quite a few residents.

Meanwhile, Friday’s storms brought reported tornadoes in the northeast parts of Texas, including Paris and Sulphur Springs, Texas.
